Psychosexual Risk Evaluation

Psychosexual Risk Evaluation: This forensic evaluation addresses the potential risk for sexual abuse and violence to others. It also includes a detailed discussion of treatment recommendations and identifies if a client would benefit from participating in a psychotherapeutic treatment program to address sexual deviance, other relevant treatment interventions (e.g., substance abuse/dependence, anger management/expression, individual counseling, or psychiatric examination) as well safety planning.

We assist plaintiff and defense attorneys in state and federal courts, religious organizations, academic institutions, child protection agencies, individuals and families, and community mental health agencies by evaluating those individuals who have been accused of engaging in sexually inappropriate behaviors or convicted of a sexually motivated offense.

Individuals are typically referred for the following reasons:

  • A criminal investigation, arrest, charge, and/or conviction in state or federal court
  • Allegations stemming from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services or other child protection agency
  • Allegations of sexual abuse by a parent or caretaker typically stemming from family court (divorce / child custody / visitation)
  • Religious organizations that have a concern about alleged sexual misconduct regarding a spiritual leader, volunteer, or member
  • Academic institutions that have a concern about alleged sexual misconduct regarding a student, faculty, or other staff member
  • Adolescents attempting to have their sex-offender registration terminated
  • Those recommended or mandated to participate in sexual offender treatment

We have extensive experience in evaluating individuals who have engaged in a wide range of sexual behaviors.

  • Unauthorized videotaping
  • Public indecency (nude in public with sexual intent or engaging in a sex act in public)
  • Disorderly conduct (i.e., voyeuristic behaviors)
  • Possession / manufacture / distribution of child pornography
  • Indecent solicitation of a child
  • Grooming
  • Travel to meet a minor
  • Sexual exploitation of a child
  • Criminal sexual abuse or assault
  • Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child
  • Ritualized abuse of a child
  • Soliciting for a juvenile prostitute
  • Patronizing a juvenile prostitute
  • Custodial sexual misconduct
  • Sexual misconduct with a person with a disability

Comprehensive or Summary Report

Individuals have the option of receiving a comprehensive or summary report of the evaluation findings.

The comprehensive report will address the following:

  • Mental status
  • Background information
    • Family history
    • Medical history
    • Education history
    • Professional history
    • Mental health evaluation / treatment history

    • Interpersonal history (peer / marital)
    • Criminal offense history (sexual / non-sexual)
  • Reported allegations (official reports or sources of information)
  • Test results
  • Individual’s sexual history
  • Individual’s explanation of reported allegations
  • Evaluation of static risk factors
  • Evaluation of dynamic risk factors
  • Individual risk factors and general discussion
  • Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders-5th edition
  • Discussion and evidence applied to determine level of risk potential for sexually victimizing others
  • Conclusions and recommendations

The summary report will address the following:
